Is There One Best Way to Get High?
We asked 7 cannabis entrepreneurs about their favorite consumption method.
For thousands of years, people have enjoyed smoking, eating, and drinking cannabis. Way back in 2737 BCE, cannabis was used as a tea to provide relief from a variety of ailments. Today, there are myriad innovative ways people can partake in their favorite herb, and cannabis manufacturers continue to experiment with new products and delivery methods.
From classic joint rolling and bong hits to shatter and seltzers, there are so many ways people love to catch their buzz. Which is the crowd favorite? Is there a best way to enjoy cannabis?
The Green Letter asked seven cannapreneurs about their favorite consumption methods, and to share with us why they love the way they get high. Responses have been lightly edited for clarity and length.
Private vs Potent
I’d say the best way to safely consume cannabis is probably edibles just because you don’t encroach on anybody else’s living space, where smoking can encroach on their area. I would say my favorite way to smoke is a bong rip. I love that – the glass pipes, and how you can actually taste the terpenes in the weed.

Trial and Error
As far as the best way to consume, it sounds kind of cliché, but it’s totally unique to the individual. Everyone’s body processes different consumption methods differently, so an edible for you is going to be a totally different experience than an edible for me, even if it’s the exact same edible at the exact same dose. It’s a lot of trial and error and figuring out what works best with your body.
I’m a bong ripper.
That being said, across the board anything that doesn’t involve your lungs is going to be healthier for your body in the long run. That’s where tinctures, edibles, and – if you’re going to combust – full spectrum and solventless products are going to be the healthiest and most potent options.
For me personally – I’m a bong ripper. It’s bongs all day, every day. When that’s inconvenient, it’s tinctures. Tinctures hold me over until I can get medicated in different ways.

Clean & Energizing
I like hash rosin because it’s super clean, it has the best high, and it tastes the best. With hash rosin, I feel like I’m able to consume and medicate in a way that allows me to go throughout my day with energy while helping with my ADHD and ability to focus. Once you go to hash rosin, you can never go back to another type of dabs.

The Classic Ritual
My favorite way to consume cannabis is a joint. It’s the art of rolling a joint, you know. You’ve got to grind down your butt, select your nug, grind it, and get the shape. It’s very ritualistic.
In smoking a joint, you get a hybrid effect of vaporization and combustion – since you’ve got the ember heating at the tip and it’s vaporizing some of the trichomes down the line – you get this really luxurious, potent effect. It’s maybe not the most cost-effective form of consuming, but for me, it’s definitely one of the most tasty ways to consume flower.

Edibles Heal, Dabs Thrill
I like dabs, and I like eating edibles. They’re two different ways. Sometimes I can’t dab, so I like edibles because they’re longer lasting because they’ll help me sleep. It’s a good way to consume cannabis.

Quick & Powerful
My personal favorite way to consume is dabbing. I do a lot of video gaming, and having something where I can just take one hit in the three to five minutes between games makes dabbing the most ideal for me. It’s a lot at once, so I don’t think it’s something for everyone, but I think it gets a bad rep because a lot of people start by taking dabs in a size that they shouldn’t. If you start with an appropriately-sized dab, it’s going to be more akin to a vape hit as opposed to this crazy thing people think dabbing is.

Flower Forever
Flower. Smoked flower. Why is that the best way to consume? It’s just my favorite right now. Does that change over time? It hasn’t, but I assume as you get older and become unable to smoke, you may transition to something different if you still crave THC. Everyone knows it’s not something you want to put in your lungs for your whole life, so edibles become an option at some point. Who knows when, but for now, flower is my number one choice.
